FACTS

WHAT IS OXIDATION AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT BRONZE?

If you own any metal jewelry other than solid gold, titanium, platinum, fine silver or stainless steel, you may notice that some may leave a faint green residue behind. Over the years there had been a false narrative that this happens only with cheap jewelry. WRONG!

The culprit is actually YOUR skin. I mean, you are not the bad guy. but your chemical make up can cause a reaction with alloys that will cause a reaction called oxidation. Oxidation is harmless but it is important to note that this can happen for multiple reasons.

Any metal that is not pure gold, titanium, platinum, or stainless steel, is mixed with other metals, the popular choice being brass or copper. Copper is an expensive metal. Ever look to see the pricing of copper items? I mean, hello our beauty Lady Liberty is made from Copper, and she looks pretty great for her age.

Some people's skin reacts with copper differently. Depending on your pH, if you are dehydrated, certain allergies, if you have lotion or soap on your hands, etc can mix with the copper particles and cause a reaction called oxidation.  When this happens, you may notice a faint green line left behind, more noticeably with our rings as they are sitting on your skin and may rub on sweat, lotion, or soap.

This is completely harmless and poses no danger to you! Simply wash your hands with soap and water!

WAYS TO PREVENT OXIDATION WITH BRONZE JEWELRY:

If you notice this happens to you. It does not happen to everyone there are ways that you can prevent it from happening.

Always make sure you jewelry is dry. It is okay to get your bronze jewelry wet, however I would not recommend submerging it for long periods of time. If it does get wet, makes sure to dry it.

Do not get lotion and soap all over your bronze jewelry.

The old clear polish trick. If your bronze jewelry is reacting funny with your skin and leaving a faint green line and it is driving you silly, paint a layer of clear nail polish on the inside of your ring to prevent this from happening.

* OUR FINE SILVER JEWELRY DOES NOT OXIDIZE. IT IS 99.99% SILVER MEANING IT IS FINE SILVER AND CONSIDERED A PRECIOUS METAL *
